I would like to make a definite booking for this trip:

I am interested in this trip and would like to get more information:

The Rolwaling Valley is located northeast of Kathmandu and offers a trekking experience away from the main tourist routes. The route passes through remote villages and offers spectacular views of the majestic peaks of Mount Gauri Shankar. At the far end of the valley lies Lake Tsho Rolpa at 4,500 metres above sea level in a landscape shaped by glaciers. With a little luck, we may find different crystals. You will have the opportunity to get to know the unique culture of the Sherpas and experience the untouched natural landscape. Rolwaling is a sacred valley for the Sherpas, and a visit to the monastery in Beding is a cultural highlight of the trek.

Important information about the trip

daily distances

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.

Day 2

Kathmandu

Discover the temples in Kathmandu and enjoy the local cuisine at the welcome dinner. This day is for discussing the trek again to make sure you have everything you need and can start the trek without any worries.

Day 3

Kathmandu to Chetchet and Simigaon

We travel by jeep to Chetchet in the north-east of Kathmandu. Togehter with our whole team we set off up through forests and across terraced fields to Simigaon.

Day 4

Simigaon to Donggang

From Simigaon (2,000 metres above sea level), the route passes through rhododendron forests via Surmuche to Donggang (2,790 metres above sea level). If we are lucky we might spot a red panda.

Day 5

Dongang to Beding

From Dongang, the route continues along the Rolwaling River to Beding (3,700 metres above sea level). All of the landslides along the river that occurred as a result of a flash flood in the Rolwaling Khola in 2024 are as impressive as the first snow-capped mountains that come into view.

Day 6

Beding

We have a day of acclimatisation ahead of us. We visit the monastery and its school. To ensure that the acclimatisation goes well, we hike to a higher side valley with a view of Gaurishankar and the place of origin of the 2024 flash flood.

Day 7

Beding to Na

We reach the rearmost village in the valley, Na, at 4,100 metres above sea level, which is also the highest place to stay overnight. We enjoy the beautiful landscape!

Day 8

Tsho Rolpa and Dudh Kunda Lakes

From Na, we will undertake a day hike to Tsho Rolpa Glacier Lake at 4550 metres above sea level, which is part of a scientific project to monitor glacier lakes. If we have enough time and energy, we will also visit the sacred Dudh Kunda Lake, which gets its name from its milky colour. Dudh means milk in Nepali.

Day 9

Yalung Ri Base Camp

Anyone who wants to, can come along to Yalung Ri Base Camp and break the 5,000-metre barrier. It's well worth it, as the view of the glacier-covered landscape is fantastic. With a bit of luck, we'll find different minerals and catch sight of Himalayan mountain goats.

Day 10

Na to Donggang

It's already time to leave the valley again. We leave the alpine vegetation behind and find ourselves back in the rhododendron forests.

Day 11

Donggang to Simigaon

Slowly back to civilisation. We hike back and enjoy another delicious lunch in Surmuche along the way.

Day 12

Simigoan to Chetchet and then back to Kathmandu
We walk down the many steps into the valley. By jeep we make our way back to Kathmandu.

Day 13

Kathmandu

This day serves as a reserve day in case we are not quite as fast as planned somewhere. There is a lot to see in Kathmandu, for example, a visit to the Pashupatinath Temple or a trip to the Monkey Temple, where you have a magnificent view of Kathmandu.

Day 14

Departure

It's already time to fly home, hopefully with lots of wonderful memories. See you next time!

Reviews

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to travel to the Rolwaling Valley with Natalie. She knows this area very well and is as connected there as if it were her home. Thanks to Nati, I gained an insight into Sherpa culture and experienced this beautiful valley at its best in a way I could never have imagined. An unforgettable and priceless experience for which I am very grateful – and can highly recommend!
